Desert Village of Western Rajasthan

From the coldest to the hottest regions of the world,  dwellings evolved to allow for safe and continuous human habitation in that climate. The unique dwellings of western Rajasthan are a testament to human resourcefulness in a harsh and sparse landscape. The thatch-roofed huts withstand summer temperatures that routinely soar to 48degree celsius while providing a cool interior. The secret to this natural airconditioning lies in the elaborate layering of the roof and the walls. The walls of the hut are double layered with cattle dung and clay. The roof is fashioned into a dome shape using wood. This dome is then made waterproof with two layers of black plastic sheet. finally, the roof is covered with dried stalks left over after harvesting. Yet another example of how every bit is utilized by the Indian peasant. The inside of the roof is coated with a thick layer of dung and clay making it secure and insulated. Each thick coating on the walls and the floor of the hut is allowed to dry naturally under the abundant sunlight. The final finish is the exquisite folk paintings that turn the hut into a happy home of a peasant family. Such a beautiful reminder of a simple and wholesome life in the desert. 

मरू राजस्थान के घरों की एक विशेषता है जहॉं 40 से 48 डिग्री पारा होने पर भी ये घर सुरक्षित व ठंडे होते है।
इन की विशेषता ये है कि दीवारें दो परत में गाय भैंस के गोबर व चिकनी मिट्टी की मोटी परत से लीपी हुई होती है और छत पेड़ों की लकड़ी से गुम्बद नुमा बना कर उपर काला प्लास्टिक दो परत लगा कर फिर कई परतों में फसल की कटाई के बाद वाला सूखा तना जिसे कुट्टी चारे के भी काम में लेते है उसे ही उपर लगाते है व अंदर से छत को गोबर व चिकनी मिट्टी से मोटी परत में लिपटाई कर इसे मज़बूत व सुरक्षित बनाते है जिससे अंदर पानी नहीं आता है व झोंपड़ा ठंडा भी रहता है।
झोंपड़े की दीवारें अंदर व बाहर से व फ़र्श को चिकनी मिट्टी व गोबर से दो तीन बार मोटी परत में लीप कर व हर परत को तेज धूप में पका कर फिर दूसरी व तीसरी परत लेप कर उन पर लोककलाओं के मॉंडणों की चित्रकारी कर इतना सुन्दर बनाते है जो आपका मन मोह लेगी।
